Christmas Treats to Make this Season

Thursday 25 December 2014

Its Christmas today. Christmas has to be my favourite time of the year because of all the Christmas lights on the houses making the outside look oh so lovely, christmas music, decorating and of coarse baking. During Christmas or just this of the year treats are a must. Chocolate, peppermint, sugary treats. I will be sharing with you two of my favourite treats to make.

Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups butter, softened or margarine

2 cups white sugar

4 eggs

1 teaspoon vinilla

5 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoon baking power

1 teaspoon salt

Directions;

1) In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least 1 to 2 hours (or overnight is best).

2) Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

3) Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely before decorating.

To decorate mix together 1 cup of powered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoon of milk (add a little bit first) and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Also if you like you can add a little bit of mint extract and food colouring.  Add the icing onto the cookies to give then the finished touch.

 Peppermint Fiddle Diddles

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter or margarine

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup milk

6 tablespoons cocoa powder

3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1 pinch salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Topping:

A few candy canes crushed

Directions:

1) In a saucepan put in the butter or margarine, sugar and milk. Heat on medium, stirring often, until it comes to boil. Remove pan from heat.

2) Add all remaining ingredients in saucepan. Stir well. Drop small rounded shapes using a spoon onto parchment paper. Sprinkle on the crushed candy canes. Let cool completely in fridge.

3) Store in a container with lid in the fridge. Makes about 40 fiddle diddles.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Merry Christmas!

Fall Photography

Saturday 29 November 2014

Fall is one of the most delightful seasons of the year because of the all beautiful colours everywhere. So earlier this month I went to the park to capture some fall pictures. When I arrived at the park most of the leaves have already fallen to the ground, which made beautiful colourful tree photos very difficult to snap a picture of as there was none there. But that don't mean no images can be taken. When something doesn't go right or how you planned it to be make the best of the situation you have.

I am really pleased with how these photos turned out. I hope you like then. Also leave in the comments what was your favourite thing about fall this year?

Camping Trip

Monday 30 June 2014

A couple weeks ago I went away for the weekend with a couple of people including my dad and a friend.

We headed to the woods and camped out in a trailer (RV). We roasted marshmallows, had a barbecue and did all that goodness that comes with camping. It was great fun and I had a splendid time apart from the fact that there was little to no wifi :( but I lived nonetheless. There was also a lake a walk away from the camp ground. Which was a bit cold to go in at the time, but we walked around and took some photos. I really miss all the smells from waking up to the fresh fire wood to the night time campfires. Will have to return there very, very soon.

Below are a few pictures I photographed on the trip.
Taken on an iPhone and edited with VSCO.

This was taken when I got back from the trip... I  just love how this photo turned out!

Overnight Oats

Wednesday 11 June 2014

Recently I have been loving overnight oats for breakfast. Have you ever heard about them before? Have you ever tried them before? If not you should give it a little taste. Overnight oats are rolled oats soaked in liquid which are stored overnight in the fridge and to be served cold in the morning. They are the perfect way to have oatmeal in the summer or just anytime of the year really. Super healthy for you and super delicious. Also really easy to make as well.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup milk ( add a little bit less if you want it to be thicker)
Pinch cinnamon (optional)

Topping:
1/2 banana
A few strawberries
dried cranberries
chopped walnuts

Directions:

Add the oats and the milk in to a bowl along with the cinnamon if you want. Stir and leave it in the fridge for at least 5 hours or overnight. While its in the fridge the oats are absorbing the milk.

Take the oatmeal out of the fridge and add your toppings. Those are just what I added on mine. Feel free to add what ever you wish and Enjoy!

Overnight oats are packed with nutrients and high in fibre giving you a great start to your day. Berries and banana add the perfect amount of sweetness to the oats and the walnuts or any other type of nut gives it that finish touch.

Winter Morning

Monday 24 February 2014

This morning I headed outside to take my dog for a walk and was delighted at what I have catch sight of. It was snowing and the snow covered the ground and the trees. I really dislike the cold very much I do but I can handle a bit of the chilly weather knowing there is snow all around me. With the snow all over and my phone in hand I couldn't pass the opportunity to snap a picture of my surroundings.

Introduction

Tuesday 4 February 2014

Hello

Welcome to my blog, my name is Kayla and I had this blog for 4 or 5 months now but, I thought I should introduce myself. I don't post often on this blog but hopefully soon that will change. I can't promise you anything though I procrastinate a lot. To the point where I should be called a procrastinator pro. I mainly started this blog because I was bored to be honest, however after having this blog for a little while I realised I love sharing my interests, thoughts and experiences to the internet rather then keeping them to myself in a journal. In the mix of it all I could possibly even enhance my writing skills cause let's get real hear I spend so much time using texting slang that at times forget basic English writing. It's fun to use letters instead of words it makes life so much easy but it's really quite embarrassing when I get your and you're mixed up.

Its a new beginning to this blog, I guess you can called it that with the new name and layout. What's next, I'm not quite sure, more posts and not waiting a whole month for the next one. I very much enjoy photography and taking pictures. I also love to make DIY projects in my spare time and travel the world if I get to opportunity to do so.

Besides from writing about lifestyle related posts I will additionally write about photography, DIY posts and some on beauty. If this blog is a success I might even start my own YouTube channel. I watch a lot of YouTubers and they really inspire me to want to film my own videos, and just enjoy life and make the best out of it. Maybe reading my posts even might inspire you to want to experience or do something new.

Oh just a quick side note I love to add a little phrase at the end of some posts sometimes just like the one below.

Never stop smiling xx
